As a teacher, the importance of being a life-long learner is an extremely vital component to growing professionally. Any educator knows that in order to achieve the best learning, one must lead by example. If students can consistently see the efforts and passion for learning reflected by the teacher, I believe there will be a lasting impact.
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself, any direction you choose" - Dr. Seuss.
Following the importance of leading by example, it is imperative to be mindful of the constant changes around us on a local and global scale. Environmental awareness is a topic of interest that has grown exponentially over the last few years. By bringing that awareness into the classroom better allows for students to know and understand the world they live in from a young age, further providing them with the ability and tools to take that knowledge and act upon it in the future.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
- Dr. Seuss (The Lorax)
One of the most valuable tools to equip students with is the self-assurance and ability to be independent and critical thinkers. By introducing the importance of problem solving, communication and self-direction, the combination will result in students who are able to think for themselves, confident in their own opinions and decisions, and the motivation to pursue only the best for their future. This can be achieved through emphasis in literacy education, fine arts, inquiry, and physical action.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
- Dr. Seuss
After saying all that.... the NUMBER ONE RULE is to ALWAYS HAVE FUN!
"If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good." - Dr. Seuss
